  • Overview

    Define problems, formulate overall concepts, and evaluate findings requiring novel approaches in the areas of acute and early management of clinically significant neurotrauma. The successful candidate will provide knowledge and expertise to plan and design quantitative and qualitative research studies and analyze and interpret research data in order to inform treatment to enhance prehospital resuscitative capabilities and reduce combat-related morbidity and mortality

    Responsibilities

    • Create research analytic datasets by applying data management and programming skills
    • Perform basic descriptive and complex multivariate statistical analyses
    • Prepare tabular and graphic displays of research data
    • Prepare study protocols and related statistical analysis plans
    • Produce abstracts, reports, presentations, and/or peer-reviewed publications
    • Analyze and interpret data and prepare formal responses to research questions received from external sources
    • Collaborate with data retrieval staff to extract data from existing large in-house data registries
    • Perform complex statistical analyses including multivariate modeling
    • Provide expertise in developing study design, and statistical analysis plans
    • Provide knowledge and expertise to plan and design quantitative and qualitative research studies
    • Analyze and interpret research data to inform treatment to enhance prehospital resuscitative capabilities and reduce combat-related morbidity and mortality
    • Conduct, coordinate, and support research that ultimately provides evidence-based guidelines, practices and technologies in support of neurotrauma-related emergency care and tactical combat casualty care

    Qualifications

    • Education:
      • Masters or PhD degree prepared in biological science, health science or statistics
    • Required Knowledge/Experience:
      • Working knowledge of combat related neurotrauma (with and without polytrauma)
      • 4-6 years' minimum work in a research or healthcare environment
      • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, SPSS or any statistical package
      • Ability to perform statistical analyses, database management
      • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
      • Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience analyzing medical or health-related data
      • Proficiency with SAS statistical analysis software to perform data management, basic descriptive analysis and graphing, and advanced statistical analysis including:
        • Proficiency with multivariate modeling
        • Continuing management and statistical analysis skills
      • Working knowledge of relevant medical, epidemiologic, and statistical literature applicable to trauma and injury research
    • Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
      • Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care strongly preferred
      • Candidates with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS®) or Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P®) certification and experience in the following areas are preferred:
        • Possess expertise in the ICD-9-CM, HCPCS Level II coding systems, and CPT coding systems
        • Knowledgeable about medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology
        • Worked with Researchers and public health officials to monitor patterns and explore new interventions
        • Expertise in health information documentation, data integrity, and quality
      • Advanced statistical analysis skills such as regression modeling (linear and logistic), time-to-event methods (survival and hazard models), and generalized models
      • Previous experience in data management and analysis of medical and/or health-related data
    • Travel:
      • June 16th, 5 nights: Society for Epidemiologic Research (Miami, FL). To attend and present research findings at a major scientific conference
      • August 16th, 5 nights: Military Health System Research Symposium (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). To attend and present research findings at a major military health conference

    Other Responsibilities

    • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the department/contract
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Program Manager
