  • Overview

    Our federal customer requires a new network protection solution, OCONUS NextGen Firewall (NGFW) be implemented using Palo Alto Networks firewalls to inspect network traffic and protect the Agency’s Network.  Support the implementation of Panorama management system and the Palo Alto firewalls as part of a networking defense technologies upgrade effort.  This includes assessing the current firewalls, documenting the design, assisting with the local configuration and shipping of the firewalls to the 50+ locations worldwide.  Be responsible for documenting installation instructions for the remote staff to follow and working with a technical writer to produce documentation for the operations support staff.


    • Install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot Palo Alto Firewalls
    • Network design and solutions architecture featuring Palo Alto Networks capabilities
    • Maintain and administer perimeter security systems such as firewalls, web proxies, and intrusion detection systems
    • Experience with web filtering and proxy device administration and management via Panorama
    • Be responsible for ongoing configuration changes, monitoring and maintenance for Palo Alto firewalls until they are transitioned to operations.
    • Troubleshooting network security issues at local and remote sites
    • Research industry best practices and make recommendations
    • Implementing application layer security controls within the Palo Alto configuration
    • Create configuration and installation documents
    • Utilize excellent oral and written communication skills, be a team player and willing to learn


    • Education:
      • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline
      • Demonstrated experience working with Palo Alto Networks equipment
    • Required Knowledge/Experience:
      • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Firewall and/or Web Proxy administration or other related security devices
      • Understand and familiar with processes like change management, revision control, and automation
      • Have thorough understanding of firewall, web proxy, and intrusion detection technologies
      • Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, routing and switching
      • Working knowledge of federal information security requirements
      • Good oral and written communications skills
      • Excellent customer service skills
      • Experience with Internet technologies and networking
      • Knowledge of network protocol captures and analysis (i.e. Wireshark, Netflow, etc.)
      • Experience with Linux and Windows
    • Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
      • Palo Alto Networks ACE or PCNSE certifications
      • Other network vendor certifications (e.g. FireEye, Juniper and F5)
      • Proficiency with Cisco routers, switches and firewalls
      • Experience with optimizing networks
      • Understanding of WAN based support technologies including: MPLS Circuits, BGP, OSPF and DMVPN
      • Experience working with enterprise AWS cloud environments
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Ability to perform network hardware installation which could include lifting, moving, and installing equipment up to 60 lbs
