  • Overview

    Provide inter-site network backbone troubleshooting services for all locations including NFATC, 1200 Wilson Boulevard, SA-15 Annex, and the HST annex.  Provide network backbone maintenance and troubleshooting services for the FSI Primary network backbone systems (OpenNet), and FSI DINs backbone systems (DMZ, WiFi, DOM5, FSI NET) environments and FSI at locations as needed.  Requires expertise and a high level of understanding in virtualization and storage technologies with strong focus on troubleshooting and configuration.


    • Utilize engineering experience of NetApp storage systems, VMWare virtualization Software, and storage base virtualization infrastructures supporting distance learning architectures to also include the following:
      • Virtual server management and knowledge with backup systems
      • Server datacenter optimization including server maintenance
      • Demonstrate virtualization environment installation, configuration, administration
        • Virtual networking
        • Storage device network connectivity
        • Storage technology protocols
    • Maintain and Troubleshoot ESX VMware systems for FSI Distance Learning Initiatives with High Availability and Fault Tolerance
    • Configure and Maintain DMZ and WiFi network security environments using Department of State DS configuration guidelines
    • Configure and Maintain DS3 frame- relay internet routers and IP space allocation
    • Configure and Maintain Cisco IPS systems, NetVCR Appliances, Cisco ASA Next Gen firewalls, for FSI Distance Learning Initiatives
    • Configure and Maintain F5 LTM (Local Traffic Manager) load balancing of http and https web server connections to Learncenter LMS software applications, OpenNet application systems, and distance learning software applications
    • Configure and Maintain Cisco 6509-E and 4500 switches and Cisco access switches for ten-gigabit connectivity and high-availability
    • Configure and Maintain Cisco CSACS (Cisco Secure Access Control Access Server) TACACS servers and TACACS/ RADIUS network device configurations
    • Maintain and Troubleshoot NetApp Storage systems for FSI Distance Learning Initiatives including FC, SAS, ISCSI, and NFS connectivity
    • Configure and Maintain What’s Up Gold monitoring systems for monitoring FSI Distance Learning Servers and software implementations
    • Configure and Maintain LH and SX fiber connectivity for gigabit and ten-gigabit campus interconnectivity using Department Of State DS configuration standards
    • Provide network engineering for supporting Learncenter LMS software load balancing and Learncenter LMS IIS configuration
    • Configure Web servers for Learncenter LMS functionality and high availability
    • Provide network engineering for supporting the FSI Wifi environment
    • Configure and Maintain the Wifi Wireless infrastructure
    • Provide documentation creation and documentation maintenance services for FSI Distance Learning environment and the FSI Wifi environment using FAM guidelines
    • Configure and maintain Windows 2008/ 2012 servers supporting Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and IIS


    • Education:
      • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field or years of additional experience
    • Required Knowledge/Experience:
      • Must have a minimum of 3 years professional experience in relevant field
      • Must possess one of the following:
        • Cisco
        • CCNA
        • Microsoft MCP
      • Engineering experience of NetApp storage systems, VMWare virtualization Software, and storage-based virtualization infrastructures supporting distance learning architectures
      • Engineering experience and hands-on experience with enterprise wireless deployments, Cisco Prime management, Cisco Wireless Controller Configuration, Cisco AP mounting, Wireless signal assessment, heat map creation, and wireless signal propagation
      • Engineering experience of LAN/ WAN connectivity technologies including Long Haul, Short Haul Fiber, fiber types interfaces and distance lengths, gigabit and ten gigabit Ethernet, spanning tree protocols, and wireless technologies
      • Engineering experience and hands-on experience with inter-site enterprise location connections including WAN circuits, circuit encryption, TLS technologies, and Cisco router configuration
      • Engineering experience and hands-on experience with inter-site enterprise domain services management including multi-site Active Directory environments, multi-site DNS services, multi-site IP addressing, multisite data management, and data replication engineering
      • Engineering experience of Web Server Load balancing; (Foundry load balancers removed), F5 load balancer LTM modules, F5 load balancer ASM modules, and high availability network engineering principles
      • Engineering experience of LAN administration; Internet protocols, servers and services; Cisco campus based routing and switching, Cisco DMZ based routing and switching
      • Engineering experience of packet analysis systems, including NetVCR packet capture appliances, deep packet inspection, and intrusion protection systems
      • Engineering experience of Next Gen firewall systems and ASA firewall configuration
      • Experience must have been acquired in a Windows-based (2008/Windows 7 or higher) client/server environment with the ability to successfully adapt current environment to higher versions (e.g., Windows 2012 or higher server/Windows 10 or higher client)
      • Significant experience as a member of a team and directly assisting end-user clientele, positive interpersonal skills, and a customer-service orientation
    • Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
      • Knowledge of a distance training environments with LMS systems, the use of customized application delivery systems in a web-based learning environment
      • Experience with load balancing DMZ networked applications
      • Experience with campus based networking environments which support classroom environments, application developers, web developers, database developers, and management staff
      • Engineering experience of NetApp storage systems, Syncsort Software, and Netapp Integrated backup solutions including Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and NFS connectivity protocol engineering
