Overview

Provide technical guidance, software installation, software configuration and system troubleshooting Joint Global Command and Control (GCCS-J), VMware, Windows, Windows exchange, Storage, Symantec, SharePoint, and Cisco products. Maintain security standards and maintenance for various systems, applications, hardware, software, and configurations with the optimization of procedures, transitions, and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as UNIX systems administrator with duties including but not limited to server configuration to support GCCS-J suite of systems, ensuring application software is updated as necessary to uphold the Security policy, and troubleshoot all GCCS-J systems, applications and communication malfunctions until resolved
  • Perform System Security Reviews for all assigned servers, operating system cluster patch updates, GCCS segment installations and upgrades, data/media backups and database archive operations
  • Verify and review key files and operations to verify only valid processes run, reallocate resources as they become available, and recommend additional components to optimize overall performance
  • Manage the installation and evaluation of software and hardware, system fixes, updates, and enhancements that include commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and Government off-the-shelf (GOTS) applications
  • Maintain server integrity and availability by resolving installation problems, identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities as needed
  • Oversee management of accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment
  • Assist the planning, programming, development, and execution of classroom instruction for GCCS-J, that include but are not limited to the validation and updates to training plans in order to facilitate enhanced training and improved technical and tactical skills of JTF system operations for practical application
  • Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS up to 25%
  • During contingency operations (deployments or exercises), an alternate work schedule may be required to support 24/7 operations; field conditions are likely
  • Instruct DoD personnel on JTF and GCCS-J systems capabilities and applications

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • IAT Level II (Security+ CE, GSEC, etc.)
    • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) certification (within 6 months of hire)
  • Required Knowledge/Experience:
    • Experience with Linux/Unix servers, Windows Operating System and Servers, Solaris 8 and 10 operating systems; related systems/network troubleshooting
    • Experience working with the GCCS or any of its service variants (GCCS-M, GCCS-A, GCCS-AF), and/or any other DoD Command and Control systems
    • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) procedures for responding to new threats to systems to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability
  • Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
    • Possess comprehensive knowledge of systems integration, performance tuning, evaluation methods and procedures, and project management principles sufficient to maintain, plan, and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment
    • Oral and written communication skills are required due to personal contact with high ranking individuals within the agency or groups from outside the agency
    • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to handle moderate to complex, seldom occurring job events
    • Comprehensive knowledge of basic computer hardware and software fundamentals
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Lift up to 50lbs
